The Schnippenburg Museum - Legendary finds from the Celtic era

In an exciting tour, visitors follow in the footsteps of the Iron Age people who built the complex 2,300 years ago on a spur in the Wiehengebirge mountains, near the village of Schwagstorf. At the same time, they learn about the work of the archaeologists and share in their discoveries, research and questions.
They become part of the Schnippenburg puzzle and experience research in and as a process.
Regional and supra-regional references demonstrate the European context of the unusual excavation site in the field of tension between Mediterranean influence, Celtic Latène culture and the cultural groups of the neighboring areas to the north.

In addition to the museum and the site itself, a reconstructed farmstead from the pre-Roman Iron Age can also be visited in the neighboring village of Venne. This provides visitors to the municipality of Ostercappeln with an extensive range of offers relating to the Schnippenburg. Various package deals and themed guided tours as well as educational activities can be booked at the three locations of the museum, the discovery site and the Iron Age house. A catalog, an accompanying scientific volume, a monograph and an elaborately designed booklet for schoolchildren are available in the museum store. The exhibition film on DVD and various finds from Schnippenburg Castle are also available as high-quality replicas.
A little tip: The Heimatverein Schwagstorf e. V., which is also the sponsor of Museum Schnippenburg, also opens the Museum of Technology and the Museum of Local History diagonally opposite on the first Sunday of every month. In the latter, you can relax and soak up the impressions of the guided tour in a cozy atmosphere with coffee and homemade cake.

A public guided tour takes place every first Sunday of the month at 2:30 pm.

Guided tours of the museum and combined Iron Age offers (e.g. Schnippenburg Museum, Schnippenburg excavation site and Iron Age House) as well as school trips and group excursions can be booked at any time and all year round.
