Lake

The name of this idyllic lake points out to the surrounding pine trees.

The largest bog pond within the Bavarian Forest National Park, with around 1,000 square meters, is surrounded by moorspirkes and mountain pine trees, which do not grow upright, but flourish recumbent. They are called “Latschen” because of this habit. Crossing a boardwalk with platform that is part of the ‘Erlebnisweg Schachten und Filze’ (signpost 'Wolf'), one reaches the lake in a direct way. The sour water is extremely poor of nutrient. The moorland offers appropriate habitat to only a few highly specialized species, such as  bog-sedge or bog-Rosemary.
