Stages:
Mauth P+R - Jägerstraßl - Schwarzbach – Hacklreibe - Reschbach – Mauth P+R
Tour description:
From the Igelbus stop and parking lot Mauth P + R (750 m above sea level), we drive downhill on the asphalt road, leave Mauth and cross the Reschbach. After the bridge, cycle path 89 branches off right and then left again again towards Lusen National Park Center (NP-Zentrum Lusen). We follow it on a gravel road past parking area Jägerstraßl and uphill through the forest. Along the Seefilz, we finally reach a crossroads. We keep right, switch to cycle path 90 towards Finsterau and cross the Steinbach. The path is not quite as steep now.
After about 1 kilometer, the hiking trail crosses the cycle path with the signpost ‘Goldsteig’. Now we are driving through mixed mountain forest, which is poor of species. This kind of forest is the most common within the Bavarian Forest National Park. We made it to the highest point at about 1000 meters above sea level, when a trail signposted with ‘Arnika’ (Arnica) meets our path. From here, we cycle a large bend downhill towards Finsterau, until we reach the paved Reschbachstraße at Hacklreibe (information panel).
If you still have time, you can make a detour to the Freilichtmuseum Finsterau, which can be found 400 meters slightly uphill on the left hand side and gives an insight to the history of settlement in the Bavarian Forest. Back at Hacklreibe, the way leads us gently downhill along the Reschbach. Now the marking ‘Nationalpark-Radweg’ (National Park Cycle Path) accompanies us to our starting point. Before Mauth, the lawn area near rest area Sandriegel takes us to the Reschbach. The starting point of the tour, Igelbus stop and parking lot Mauth P+R, is located at the end of Reschbachstraße on the left side. We can relax at the end of our tour at the natural lake in Mauth.

Did you know it?
The mixed mountain forest, which is poor of species covers the largest area in the national park and is typical of the nutrient-poor, acidic soils, as produced by the gneiss and granite subsoil of the Bohemian Forest. Except of beech, fir and spruce, only a few flowers can be found on the forest floor, but the first impression deceives! Hidden under bark of moldy trunks and in the rotten wood of old beech trees, a great number of insects leads a secret life. Only the lush fungi flora surpasses the number of insect species.
From Finsterau to Mauth, the bike path leads along the Reschbach and shows us a mountain stream, people once used for timber drift. The all year cold mountain streams are nutrient-poor and fast-flowing. Due to that, they do not contain any water plants, except for a few mosses. Brown trout and white-throated dipper are typical for these oxygen-rich streams.
