Look-out experience of nature

The Ruckowitzschachten is the largest clearings within Bavarian Forest National Park.

Located on a ridge of the Falkenstein massif, the Ruckowitzschachten is the largest former forest pasture in Bavarian Forest National Park. The name originates from a mistake by a cartographer. The pronunciation of the locals was interpreted wrongly – the Schachten was actually called "Ruckawies", which simply “means mountain ridge meadow”. Since 2014, the area is grazed for several weeks in summer - a little flock of red cattle is brought up there.
