Lake Geotope

Rachelsee is the only natural lake within the Bavarian Forest National Park.

It was formed at the end of the last ice age by glacier activity in a kar. The accumulated meltwater formed a lake of up to 13.5 meters of depth and 5.7 hectare of size. Today, the only natural lake within the national park is fed by the Seebach, which has its source at the Rachelseewand. From the shore of the glacier lake, one can not only sees Rachel summit, but also discover Rachel chapel.
