Built as a moated castle by the Münchhausens.
Clamor von Münchhausen began building a moated castle in the Weser Renaissance style in Brokeloh in 1545. His son Erich-Hans completed the building around 1600 as a four-winged complex. It used to be surrounded by a double moat and has a massive base storey. There is a half-timbered upper storey on three sides; the Knights' Hall is located in the rear, single-storey wing. By the middle of the 19th century, the castrum had become so dilapidated that its demolition was considered; however, thanks to the initiative of the then owner, Privy War Counsellor Friedrich August Wilhelm Niemeyer - who had accumulated a special building fund for this purpose - a thorough restoration was carried out between 1871 and 1875.
The manor, like the day laborers' houses belonging to the estate, is a listed ensemble. Most of the buildings are rented out for residential purposes, and part of the caretaker's house has been converted into vacation apartments. The extensive grounds with the listed ensemble of buildings and its English park invite you to relax and enjoy nature. Rooms are available for celebrations, events or group trips.
