Großer Bullensee

This pristine moor lake is a popular swimming spot

The Großer Bullensee is located south of Rotenburg (Wümme) and is idyllically situated in a wooded area, directly adjacent to the Großes und Weißes Moor nature reserve. In the summer, this official swimming lake is perfect for swimming and splashing around. A non-swimmer area is marked off by a rope and buoys. This is a good thing, as the lake is quite deep in the middle. During the swimming season, the DLRG keeps a watchful eye on swimmers on weekends. Admission is free!

If you just want to enjoy the sun, you can simply take a seat on the long pier or settle down on the benches around it.  There’s also a small children’s playground right by the lake.

By the way, the lake is also a wonderful place to take a walk. There’s even a bog adventure zone (see information board):

Nature Trail and NORDPFAD Dör 't Moor
The Große and Weiße Moor are located right next to the lake. This raised bog is a protected nature reserve, as is the “Kleine Bullensee,” the “little brother” of the “Großer Bullensee.”
To help you cross the bog without getting your feet wet, the following four nature trails have been created. These are marked with colored trail markers.

• Kleine Bullensee Loop (yellow dotted), approx. 1.5 km
• Großer Bullensee Loop (green dotted), approx. 2.5 km
• Kleine Moor Loop (blue dotted), approx. 7.5 km
• Long Moor Loop (red dotted), approx. 11.5 km

The Long Moor Loop has been incorporated into the NORDPFADE hiking trail network: 24 circular hiking trails, all of which run through the district of Rotenburg (Wümme). Here, the circular hiking trail is called “NORDPFAD Dör’ t Moor” and is marked accordingly on site. The shorter alternative, the “Kleine Moorrunde,” is marked as a variant.

Moor Zone
The Moor Zone is located southwest of the Großer Bullensee. The Moor Zone features several informational panels on the topic of “moors” and many great spots to linger and observe.
